South Australian Premier Leads High-Profile Education Delegation in Delhi to Discuss Opportunities for Indian Students

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas recently led a prominent education delegation to New Delhi, aiming to strengthen educational and business ties between South Australia and India. The delegation included three university Vice-Chancellors and officials from StudyAdelaide. This visit underscores South Australia's commitment to fostering collaborations with India in education, culture, and the economy.

Key Highlights from the Visit

  • StudyAdelaide Event: A significant event was held in New Delhi, where Premier Malinauskas delivered a keynote address highlighting the growing opportunities in South Australia's key industries. He emphasized how Indian students could benefit from these sectors, including health, renewable energy, space, agriculture, and critical technologies. Malinauskas noted that these industries offer employment opportunities for students during and after their studies, preparing them for global careers.

  • Panel Discussion: The event featured a panel discussion with Vice-Chancellors from South Australia's public universities. The panel explored how Adelaide serves as a gateway for Indian students to excel academically and professionally, emphasizing the state's strong educational infrastructure and industry connections.

  • Employment Connect Initiative: StudyAdelaide Chief Executive Jane Johnston highlighted the organization's commitment to student success through initiatives like Employment Connect. This program offers a comprehensive range of employment support, helping students secure meaningful work during and after their studies. Notably, over 400 Indian students have participated in these employment-related initiatives in the past two years.

  • Educational Growth: India remains the largest source country for international students in South Australia, with 16,162 Indian student enrollments, marking a 4% increase from the previous year. The state is also investing in higher education, with the launch of Adelaide University in 2026, resulting from the merger of the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide.

Conclusion

Premier Malinauskas's visit to New Delhi highlights South Australia's dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for Indian students. Through strategic partnerships, industry collaborations, and supportive initiatives, South Australia aims to provide a conducive environment for Indian students to pursue their academic and professional aspirations.
